Network Engineer

Job Description:
Hurd I/T has several network engineering positions available in the Network Operations Center. The Network Operations Center is responsible for the deployment and management of data center networks which support our corporate facilities, data centers, and select customer facilities. Technologies for these networks include the wired and wireless networks in our facilities and customer facilities.
Job Responsibilities:
- The position includes all facets of network engineering including design, deployment, and on-going enhancements.
- Serves as a Network Support Engineer and Operations Support Engineer for management of several large data center facilities.
- Involved in not only operations support but new deployments and enhancements.
- Assists clients/partners in developing strategies that use networking products/services to accomplish business goals.
- Solves problems which have little or no precedent and guides the search for solutions.
- Some specific responsibilities include configuration of Cisco, Juniper, SonicWall, and HP network gear and preparing and maintaining network documentation using Visio and other Office tools.
Skills Desired:
- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of network design and operations for consumer oriented access technologies, large enterprises, hosting systems designs, and very large scale internet backbone topologies.
- Experience in configuring and managing routers and switches from Cisco, Juniper, Dell and HP.
- A Basic understanding of core network protocols, IP, TCP, UDP, etc.
- Experience or familiarity in routing protocol development, operations and research (BGP, OSPF, ISIS, RIP, and MPLS).
- An understanding of LAN protocols, especially HSRP, VRRP, PoE, and DHCP.
- Good understanding of circuit technologies and alternatives, including T1/T3, E1/E3, OCx, Gigabit Ethernet in the MAN, SDNs and VPNs including IPSec and MPLS.
- Good network documentation skills using Visio and other office software.
- Must work well in a technical team as well as in support of non-technical customers.
- Must have good written and verbal skills.
- Must work well in a fast paced and ever changing environment.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of related technologies/protocols such as: Layer 4 Load Balancing, DNS, SMB, and NAT.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of related technologies/protocols such as: Router peering, NAT, and VPNs.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of related technologies/protocols such as: Wireless LAN protocols and security.
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of related technologies/protocols such as: Windows Scripting Host, Shell/Perl scripting.
Education/Equivalent Experience:
Due to the number of optional certification programs and college offerings we are looking to the quality of the candidate and their knowledge rather than just a degree. Potential candidates will undergo a technical interview to validate their skill level. We are hiring for entry level to high level positions. Ideally a candidate will demonstrate a clear understanding of the technologies with either the ability to implement or follow direction on mentoring in a particular area. This is a position that for the right person provides fantastic growth or knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related area or similar certifications
- 2 - 4 years' of experience with network administration in a Linux or Windows environment
- Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals
Unique Requirements:
- Must be able to participate in limited on-call duties.
- Must be able to travel on limited basis (1 to 2 times per year likely).
- Must participate in an on call rotation supporting the Network Operations Center, and carry a pager/cell-phone 7x24.
- Local travel will be required.
